Today was my first day here at the EA studios in Vancouver. Its amazing to be here, the first thing of the list was a tour inside the studios, in the first floor it’s the food area, they also have a store and a videogame library for the employers, after that we went to the offices where they make FIFA for PSP and for Wii and we continued like that in all the floors, EA also has a soccer pitch, a volleyball and basket ball pitch and a gym, this place its really amazing.

After the tour I met all the FIFA team working on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, they are really cool guys, and then the moment I was waiting for days, I had the chance to play FIFA 09 on Xbox 360. I have to say that the game its very different than the last version, it has a lot of new animations and the players reactions are more natural, they make all their moves as in real life and they are not slow like the last version.

The goalkeeper it’s way better, he reacts to every shot and challenges every ball with intelligence. Another great thing is the custom tactics where you can create your very own style of play, there are thousands of combinations. I didn’t had the time give it a more inside view but in the future for sure I will. I played games against the FIFA 09 team and to be my very first time I played quite good, but today I hit the post at least ten times, I swear.

Today I played with the Mexican national team and also with the Arsenal from the Premier League. The animations of the game are beautiful, the players look very real and they also have more dramatic reactions in the game like when they are screaming at the referee or when they are injured.

After playing for a few hours, we went to eat something. When we came back I had a very interesting meeting with David Rutter the producer of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. After that it was time to see the PC version, the game is not very different than the last one, maybe it’s because I recently played a lot FIFA 08 for PC and I can make the moves I m used to do on that game, all the passes and lob balls are manual again and I think this is great because the ball goes to the very place you want to, so you have to be very precise to make a good pass. The goalkeeper is really hard to beat in the hardest difficulty, it’s really a challenge to score against him, and also in this FIFA you still have the chance to change the mentality of your team in defense and in offense with the D-pad.

The graphics are very close to next gen and it looks very real. This game give you the option to play using the keyboard and the mouse together, I’m not a very skilled player with the keyboard but I think for the people that like to play with the keyboard this will be different way to play FIFA 09. Also the menus are new, they look really cool, unfortunately I didn’t play a lot, I just played one game, but soon I will have more details about the PC game.

Well today was a really interesting day here at the EA studios, I met the FIFA team and also I had a talk with the producer, again thanks EA for the invitation and please keep in touch with these daily blogs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good insight. Can't wait for the game to come out. Hopefully they have reduced the lag that is a real problem with the PS3. Thanks for the review.

although I'm not him, I can tell you that xbox 360 vs ps3 it really comes down to what consolo/controler you feel more confortable using.

Yes, it's true many developers have said that it's more difficult to code for the ps3 than 360 and therefore the gameplayed had suffered in the past for many games specially sports games, since those it's all about gameplay.

with that said, now they've had the ps3 for a while so now new sports games that are coming out now should be closer than ever to the 360 gameplay. I personally like 360 better, just because I hate the playstation's controller design.

Awesome man, that's really cool you got to do that. You must be a heck of a good player! Are you going to try the PS3 version? Do you know if it's true that 360 is really better than PS3 for sports games? Sorry, 1 more question; What is the difference between the newer 360's and the original version? (I bought a 360 when it 1st came out, then gave it to my nephew and got a PS3 when they came out, I've been told that was a bad move for sports games, which is all I play). Enjoy your time out there!
